A noun.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s mainly used with equals to signify friendship or a close relationship, or with children or teenagers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Between friends<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A : Salut Paul ! <strong>Tu<\/strong> vas bien ?                                 (<em>Hi Paul! how are you? <\/em>)        <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>B : Oui, tr\u00e8s bien. Et <strong>toi,<\/strong> \u00e7a va ?                        <em>   (Yeah, I&#8217;m fine. H<\/em>ow <em>are you doing?<\/em>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Note: &#8220;Et toi&#8221; literally means &#8220;And you&#8221;. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Using &#8220;vous&#8221;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Other words regarding the use of &#8220;vous&#8221;:<br><strong>vouvoyer<\/strong> (= to use \u201cvous\u201d with someone, a verb.)<br><strong>Le vouvoiement<\/strong> (= the act of using \u201cvous\u201d with someone. A noun.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s mainly used for strangers and\/or to show respect for others and\/or by children\/teenagers towards adults.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With someone you don&#8217;t know<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A : Pardon Madame ! Savez-<strong>vous<\/strong> s&#8217;il y a une poste pr\u00e8s d&#8217;ici ?         (<em>Excuse me Madam! Do you know if there is a post                         office near here?) <\/em>        <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>B : D\u00e9sol\u00e9e Monsieur, je ne suis pas d&#8217;ici.                        <em>                        (I&#8217;m sorry sir, I&#8217;m not from here.<\/em>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-primary-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\">Important!<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<strong>Vous<\/strong>&#8221; can be singular or plural. It can refer to one person or several ones.<br>Since &#8220;<strong>tu<\/strong>&#8221; is only singular, &#8220;<strong>vous<\/strong>&#8221; should be used when addressing several friends, children or close people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Switching from &#8220;vous&#8221; to &#8220;tu&#8221;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When a feeling of friendship arises, we can start to use &#8220;tu&#8221; with the other person.
